I received an email message the other day. You all know how I love to chat and receive emails. And I always anwer emails. If you send me an email and don’t hear back, it’s because the internet must have messed with the communiqué. Anyway, I open it and I swear to God I have no idea what it said. There were no caps, no periods and the worst of all, no vowels!!!!!!
Do you know how opening emails like that messes with a dyslexic’s head?
Anyway, I couldn’t read the message no matter how hard I tried. I felt badly but I had to email back and request vowels. Lots of vowels!!!
Maybe it’s my age, maybe it’s the fact that I’m a writer, but the text messaging format doesn’t work for me. I like capitals, punctuation, vowels, a clear exchange of pleasantries and idea without the need for decoder rings. I don’t have a formal bone in my body, but please. if you email me, please toss in a vowel or two.

I know what you mean. Some of the abbreviations I get and some of them I don’t no matter how hard I try. Every time I don’t get them, I feel let down and so lame. *sniff*
Try typing the abbreviations into google or show it to a teenager. My teen has been really patient with me, but sometimes I get the feeling she is in her room ROTFL @me :) heh.

I watch my 11 yr old daughter chatting with her friends on the internet and I honest to god cannot understand half of it. So be assured when i do e-mail you and I have….the only problems you might find with my e-mails, are spelling and bad grammar. :)

Kim, I suppose I could type stuff into google, but then I’m resistant. Part of me feels thats a lot of work to go to for a message that might turn out to be spam. nd part of me, no doubt the motherly part, that thinks communication should be a two way street with an effort on both sides to be clear.

Paula,
And it was lovely hearing from you.
Now typos and mispellings don’t bother me, but a total text message type mystery note…
Clearly my tiny mind can’t work that hard and survive.

OMG WFT JK
It’s fine for me when I’m texting or IM-ing because it’s quicker and easier for real time back and forth. But in an email? No.
Hey, it wasn’t me was it?

Oh my goodness! The only reason I get the right vowels in there most of the time is because I would be sooooo embarrassed. Still, when I get really excited about something my fingers start typing so quickly and I hit that send button before I even realize what I’ve done. YIKES! Before you know it’s…gibberish! (lol)
Anyone who knows me will tell you that if you want to get a response, DON’T text me, please (lol) Your message will remain sadly unopened and ignored. I’d much rather use the phone than use that stuff.
Ahh…technology.

Hey Sarah:
All is well. This has nothing to do with your blog, but I got to thinking-how do you come up with exactly what excerpt to us and ultimately publish? The whole books is always soooo good, that it would seem hard to pick just one. Curious, I guess(lol)

Ro,
Excerpts: I call (
)in reinforcements. I’m a horrible judge of whether an excerpt is good so I ask someone else to pick one.

Bit late here Sarah but I hate what is happening to our language! I know technology has come in leaps and bounds but surely we still need to teach our kids that English is NOT a second badly known language to them. The non vowel variety now being the first!
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
I tear my hair out at misspelt words let alone missing vowels. I’m with you on this. Nothing wrong with new tech just let it be a 2nd not 1st language. Man we’ll be grunting soon!
