Time to adopt. Help choose the Mobbettes…
November 22nd, 2007
First Mascot!! Yes we are adopting a very deserving kitty to be our Alphas fur buddy. This kitty will be our virtual mascot. The kitty will not reside with us, but will live in this phenomenal shelter that takes in the cats on death row too sick to find homes, provides them with COMPLETE medical, wonderful comfortable living centers, (no cages) and gives them a chance to find a home. (A VERY unique shelter and truly a beacon for others.) Most of these cats are special needs. And the McCarty Mobettes shall be sponsoring one. We just need to chose which one. So the choice shall be done by vote. This is our chance to make a huge difference in one fur baby’s life. Do remember, none of these babies is in danger of being put down. They have all been rescued from certain death and have to meet a criteria to be accepted for Tabby’s place. The money I donate monthly (in the name of the McCarty Mobettes) to the kitty of our choice makes it possible for Tabby’s Place (I’ve been there and it’s as wonderful as it sounds) to continue to make the huge difference they do. It was a long struggle for this sanctuary to come to be, but it’s here now and the owner who fought for it’s existence in the name of his beloved Tabby, keeps it strong. You can read up on the shelter and look at the special needs animals in the guardian angel program on the website. Pick the one whose story touches you most and nominate him or her on the group.

Amazon Kindle Review
November 21st, 2007
Amazon Kindle Review
I like it. A lot. There’s been a lot of talk about it’s look, but in person it’s much sleeker than it looks, but even if that was an issue, it would be totally immaterial. The thing does what it’s supposed to do beautifully. I tried the Sony reader and I hated it. The thing was not designed to sit in my hand but required me to hold it. Between fingertips no less! (Not comfortable for long hours of use.) And the buttons were too small even for my small hands and bizarrely placed. I tried very hard to like it and stayed in the store for an hour, but after I almost flipped it across the room for the second time trying to use the menu button, I finally labeled it a hostile device and left.
The Kindle is belled and weighted at one side. It naturally balances in the curve of my palm. Major plus, because like with my ebookwise (which I also love) I can read with my left hand while drinking, eating, cooking, cleaning, etc. I like the keyboard. The keys are big enough to hit easily and spaced so you’re not always hitting the wrong one. The device doesn’t wobble when I type but stays balanced and comfortable. The page change buttons are a little too easily hit by mistake, but it’s a minor nit. I say this because after a couple minutes, I stopped hitting them *G*.
The interface is very easy and intuitive. I’m one of those people that can, in all innocence, screw up a device to the point where I’m used to Tech support coming back with comments like “Well, it’s never done that before.”. So far, without reading the manual, I was able to do everything I wanted without one mistake. For that, I’m declaring it idiot proof. Seriously, it’s a point and shoot interface and bless them for that.
The only thing I don’t like and buyers should be aware of is the interface when you connect to Amazon to shop. IT’S TINY. Not a comfortable size font for my teenage daughter and certainly not for me who is dyslexic. I blithely thought, let me just hit the font enlarge button ad take care of this little issue, but, alas, type enlargement doesn’t work in browse mode. This needs to be fixed because anyone slightly farsighted, with old lady eyes, or who has any vision issues will pretty much be precluded from shopping with the device. (Yeah, it’s that tiny, The equivalent to 8 point NY font) Major negative, but I imagine fixable on a upgrade. Maybe it’s fixable now. I have a question into Customer support. I asked at about 9pm last night and still don’t have a response. If I don’t get one by 9 this am, I’ll go into nag mode. *G*
All the people nay saying are seriously underestimating the sheer and utter “damn this is cool, how did I ever do without it” convenience of the device along with the ease of use and comfort of use. It’s already my new best friend and I’ve only had it 12 hours. It will be my BFF Kindle if I can just get that site view enlarged…

You would do what with your hero where!?
November 12th, 2007
I posted this over at eharlequin where I’m hosting a thread for the next four days as a way to break the ice and open discussion, (I don’t think I have a big enough following at Harlequin to warrant a thread so it will probably be a very quiet four days there, but I am there. *G*) However, I think this variation on the name your favorite heroes thread, is fun, so I thought I’d post it here, too. These are all heroes from books. Any genre. Just name the hero you would want with you in the following situations.
1) With what hero from what book would you most enjoy being snowbound for a weekend? Why?
2) With what hero from what book would you want to attend a 5 hour state dinner? Why?”
3) With what hero from what book would you want to be trapped in a tiny, dark elevator for five hours? Why?
4) With what hero from what book would you want to go on a survival training weekend in the mountains? Why?
5) With what hero from what book would you want to be stranded for a year on a deserted island? Why?
6) What hero from what book would you want to be under platonic house arrest for a year? Why?
7) With what hero from what book would you want to attend the wedding of your former best friend and former fiance? Why?
8) With what hero from what book would you want to raise ten children? Why?
9) With what hero from what book would you want to endure a horrible cold? Why?
10) With what hero from what book would you have liked to share a teen romance? Why?
Sarah, off to come up with her own answers!

Thank you to all the bloggers

That read and posted an advance review for Caine’s Reckoning. I really appreciate the effort. If I could find the review and if you gave me anything to pull out as a quote, I posted it on my websites and linked back to your site.
Again, thank you so much,
Sarah

Those too (?) sexy covers…
October 20th, 2007
They can range from beautiful to raunchy, but there’s no denying those ultra graphic covers get attention. The question is good or bad? Do they work for you? Why do publishers go there? Do they need to? Does it bother you to buy them? Inconvenience you because you don’t want your kids or other people’s children to see them? What’s too sexy for you? What’s too subtle?
This is the discussion of the week on my yahoo group and we’ve been fortunate to have Susan Pezzack Swinwood, Editor of SPICE and Mira, be extremely generous with her time and provide extensive input on the philosophy behind Spice covers, how market factors play into cover choice and other such interesting behind the scenes information. Feel free to come on over and join in. We’re a very civilized group. No name calling no attacking. There’s no right response to any of these questions and no wrong response and no one ever gets flamed for their opinion because, well, everyone is entitled. We just sometimes like to discuss the controversial subjects in the chat setting.
Just be advised there is no copying of material from the group. Material is copyrighted. What’s said there stays there. One does have to register to participate to keep out spammers but this is a chat group where people participate at will and no one who stops by is ever added to any mailing list.
Best,
Sarah
